🏆 How do you define Success?

To be successful you have to know what success is

A lot of people have goals but they are vague and lack clarity. When you set a goal you need to be very specific. For example, a lot of people will say “I want to be successful”. But what is success? What does failure look like?

There are many different levels of success. There are small ones and big ones. For example:

Small Ones

  • Did I successfully get out of bed?
  • Did I have a successful meeting?

Big Ones

  • Is my marriage a success?
  • Is my life a success?

Each of us defines what success looks like in different ways for every little thing we want to achieve.

This is a quote I saw from Kevin O’ Leary aka Mr. Wonderful:

To me, this is not a success. But to him, it does not matter what it takes, you can lose all this, but if he has freedom he is successful.

Whether you are trying to start a business, trying to improve yourself, or your relationships. Whatever it is you are trying to achieve you need to have clarity on what the ultimate outcome is.

That way you’ll know if you hit it or not.

For example, let’s take starting a business. You need to define what that business will look like to you.

You could say. I want to hit $10,000 per month, only contract employees and I want to be able to take time off whenever I want. Or I want to hit $100,000 per month with a large team of full-time employees and leaders.

The path to these and what you’ll do to get there is very different. But if you don’t take the time to define it, then you may end up building a business you do not want.

This applies to anything.

The success formula

  1. Know your outcome, and ask yourself what is it you want to achieve? Be specific.
  2. Take action.
  3. Reflect and notice if it is working.
  4. Change your approach and course correct until you reach it.

OK, so once you know what it is you want. Ask yourself “Why”?

The why is what will continue to motivate you when your willpower runs out.
